Subject: Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Course Curriculum Regarding
Respected Chief Minister of Tamilnadu,
It is with immense pain I write this email to you on behalf of a million other people who consider that their religious symbols and personalities are constantly being discredited and subjected to ridicule by a group of atheists who operate under a hidden agenda. I am also writing this email on account of the undiminished confidence I repose in your able administration where democratic values are upheld and the machinations of undemocratic elements weeded out of existence. In this email, I would like to draw your attention towards the events surrounding curriculum revision at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University where a group of professors, under the pretext of periodical curriculum review, have included baseless information about Sri. Andal (a significant figure in Tamil Sangam literature and Srivaishnavism) in a manner that is deeply objectionable. It saddens me that Sri. Andal, who blessed the world with the devotional hymns of Thiruppavai and Nachiyar Thirumozhi to lead the people (irrespective of caste, creed and ethnicity) to salvation, has become the object of vilification of perverted minds. When such a concocted version of history is instructed to unassuming students in the name of coursework, it will end up polluting the minds of the nation’s youngsters. Hence, it is neither in the interests of the students nor in the interests of the believers that this content can be permitted to remain a part of the course curriculum.I urge you to intervene in this matter and take these offenders to task. I also hope that your intervention sets a precedent in discouraging these undemocratic elements from engaging in similar behaviour in future.
Update (28/06/2012): The CM of Tamilnadu have responded to our plea and has ordered the controversial content to be removed from the syllabus.
